WHAT IS INNOVERSITY?

The term INNOVERSITY, which describes the relation- ship between innovation and diversity, was first defined by Susanne Justesen in her 2001 working paper
Susanne Justesen first described the term in her working paper entitled: "INNOVERSITY - The dynamic relationship between innovation and diversity"; and the term was subsequently included in the Danish Management Encyclopedia the same year.

With innovation being an important challenge to most organi- sations and being a natural consequence of changing demogra- phics and a broader availability of different disciplines, the relationship between innovation and diversity seems to be a highly relevant issue for most organisations.

However, even though most of us would be able to imagine that a multitude of perspectives and skills would provide important means for innovation, this aspect of diversity unfortunately still seems rather unaccounted for.

INNOVERSITY COPENHAGEN with this website aims to establish diversity as an important resource for innovation, and seeks to develop both a theoretical AND a practical understanding of the synergetic potential inherent in diversity - by describing the processes generating innovation in a diversified setting.

It is therefore a central assumption in the INNOVERSITY lens, that knowledge-based diversity should be regarded as an important factor with regard to innovation in an organisational setting.

Diversity in this regard is described and defined as differences in perspectives and skills / abilities (heuristics) and identity, which may or may not be a consequence of differences in age, ethnicity, gender, tenure, occupation, professional background etc.
